that members participate in March Madness by choice, so the Super 64 (or whatever) could do their own tournament as a revenue generator.

Taking that a step further, there would actually be nothing preventing other schools from banding together and getting corporate support and do essentially the same thing...or, say, Amazon decides they want to sponsor/promote a conference or a basketball championship.
